Barnwell Baptist Church

What to Expect?

Our Welcome Team will greet you when you arrive. They’ll be happy to answer any questions and will show you into the main hall. You’re free to sit wherever you like.

The service varies slightly from week to week but generally starts with notices about forthcoming events and any significant church news. There’s a time of singing led by our musicians. We hope you’ll feel comfortable to join in the singing or not; we realise you may prefer to just listen if this is new to you. There will be prayers by those leading the service and sometimes by people in the congregation.

There will also be a talk (often called a sermon) that lasts about 30 minutes. The sermon will include reading from the bible with an explanation of what it means and how it is relevant to our everyday lives.

The service usually ends with a final song and prayer.

There are always team members available afterwards to answer questions or pray for you if you would like them to.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service and this is a great opportunity to meet people and ask more questions.

Do I have to join in?

You are free to simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.

Is there a dress code?

Definitely not… Please just be yourself and come dressed in your 'normal' clothes.

What's available for children and young people?

A creche is available for children aged 1 – 4.

There’s a program of activities for school-aged children and youth that runs during the second part of the Sunday morning service. We encourage children and young people to join with the rest of the church to sing and pray at the beginning of the service.

I've got another question...

Please feel free to contact us if you’d like more information, or have other specific questions.
